On December 27th, 2019, Spike Chunsoft and TooKyo Games contributed to a "Game Developers New Years Messages" segment in Famitsu gaming magazine, in which both companies confirmed that they are working on something for the 10th anniversary of Danganronpa in 2020. Spike Chunsoft said: "We're preparing many projects for Danganronpa's 10th anniversary.", while TooKyo games said: "We want to create a reunion party-like atmosphere with the players working together with Spike Chunsoft for Danganronpa's 10th anniversary." [14] On April 9th, 2020 it was announced by Spike Chunsoft in Famitsu online gaming magazine that "a lot of new information on games, goods, tie-ins monthly commemorative programs, etc" would be announced over the course of 2020-2021 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the series, in what was titled the Danganronpa 10th Anniversary Project.[15]. The first major announcement came in the form of a special segment in the Famitsu/Dengeki Game Awards 2019 online stream on April 18th, 2020, in which the three main-line Danganronpa video games were announced to be ported to smartphones.[16].
